The Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal project comprised the replacement of nine rail level crossings with five elevated railway stations along one of Melbourne’s busiest transport corridors. Multiple collaborated with Cox Architecture and a broad group of stakeholders to develop a paired back signage system that compliments the inherent wayfinding of each station.

Abbreviated station identifiers transformed into human-scale, three-dimensional letter forms. Their passive daytime exterior dynamically transforms at night when each station emits a unique vibrant colour through the perforated sign face. Stations are now more vibrant, connected and activated, creating an experience that encourages local pride of place and inspires the mandatory “selfie” to document the journey and share on favourite social media channels. The project has proven how place making can transform everyday spaces and a lasting legacy for individuals and communities.
